A Crafted Box
The design for this garden studio is largely functional, though destined for use as an art studio the design needed to be flexible for future change and provide a base for family events in the garden throughout the seasons.
To distinguish the studio from the utilitarian box the decision was taken to use heavy, tactile and vernacular materials to anchor the studio with a sense of place, further it was decided treat the elevation as a canvas. A formal Brick and Flint arrangement slowly disintegrates across the facade as the studio transitions from the house, to garden and rolling hills beyond.
